Park Shin Hye and her Combat Butler

Park Shin Hye will be starring opposite Taiwanese actor George Hu (K.O.3an Guo, ToGetHer) in the GTV drama adaptation of popular Japanese manga series Hayate the Combat Butler. She will be playing Nagi Sanzen’in, the only heir to the Sanzen’in fortune and a short-tempered and spoiled, but ultimately good-natured one. (Yoon Eun Hye: you sure are following my footsteps!)

George Hu will tackle the role of Hayate Ayasaki, the butler of the Sanzen’in family. Due to a misunderstanding, Nagi ends up falling in love with Hayate. Tia Li, who appeared in Summer’s Desire as Ou Chen’s mom (very pretty face, but cannot act for nuts), is also cast.

Park Shin Hye has already met George Hu when she visited Taiwan in the beginning of August when they had hotpot dinner together. Speaking of first impressions, Hu described her as “very quiet, slim and very adorable”. He’s also watched some of Park’s dramas and complimented her performance as very natural. Park on her end described Hu as very handsome and that they’ve been chatting to build rapport, to which Hu added jokingly that due to the language barrier there’s always a “light bulb” aka the translator between them.

Hu has been put under extensive training in preparing for the role of the all-purpose combat butler and this includes martial arts, dancing, singing as well as performing. Other than his fighting skills, he’s also confident of his ability to do household chores, “I’m great at cleaning, and I’m okay at cooking too.” He even revealed that he once thought of becoming a chef.

Park will be bringing along her personal hair and makeup artist (in addition to her manager and assistant) for the two-month filming period and GTV is reportedly paying for all their expenses including plane tickets, hotel rooms and meals. It’s probably well worth the investment, considering Park’s huge popularity in Korea and Japan and how that’ll help in the sale of the drama’s broadcast rights overseas.

I’m looking forward to this drama just to see how it turns out!
